Facility To Coat Firearms, Tools And Equipment

by William F. Galvin

HARWICH – The planning board will be asked on Tuesday to approve a manufacturing permit for a company seeking to perform cerakote and powdercoat applications to firearm components, tools, heavy use gear, and equipment.
“The business will not operate as a public-facing retail gun shop,” T&B Coatings and Customs, LLC wrote in its application. “All firearms related work and equipment procurement will be handled securely and by appointment only, in full compliance with federal and state regulations.”
The company proposes to locate the business in a condominium unit at 136 Factory Rd. in the Industrial Limited District. Owners and operators of the business are Bo Quaglieri and Teagan Twomey. The property is owned by Great Western Realty, LLC managed by Timothy Delude.
“The business will also maintain a federal firearms license to allow for legal firearms handling and related regulated services, including the procurement and provision of tools and equipment for qualified individuals and public safety agencies,” the application reads.
The company is proposing to offer high-quality, environmentally conscious coatings for firearms, tools, vehicle parts, outdoor gear and other equipment. The company will also offer laser engraving for a wide variety of materials, according to the application.
Cerakote and powdercoating are finishes that are widely used across a broad range of outdoor and sports equipment.
According to the company, “Our coating processes are designed for low environmental impact and maximum efficiency.”
Cerakote is described as a ceramic-based finish that offers extremely low volatile organic compound output, long-term durability, corrosion resistance and heat tolerance. Powercoating is a solvent-free process that releases no volatile organic compounds and allows for efficient material use, according to the company.
“All applications will be handled in a facility built to incorporate professional-grade ventilation, containment, and environmental safeguards to ensure compliance with local and federal standards,” the application reads.
The facility will deliver measurable benefits for the town, the company asserts, such as supporting law enforcement and funding-restricted public safety agencies by providing durable coatings and affordable life-saving tools, equipment and gear; cost-effective solutions for local trades people, contractors, and small business owners seeking high-performance protective finishes for equipment; creating job opportunities and training for local residents; operating as a low-traffic, light industrial business, maintaining a minimal environmental and visual footprint; and partnering with local suppliers and service providers to bolster the local economy.
There will be strict compliance protocols, including with all federal Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms provisions, state and local regulations and accessory handling; maintaining a secure facility with strict access for all firearm-related activities; appointment-only services to control traffic, limit exposure, and ensure high security; proper material storage disposal, and waste management in line with OSHA and EPA standards; and regular safety inspections and records in cooperation with town officials.
The planning board hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m.
