Athlete Of The Week: Logan Poulin
BOURNE – Logan Poulin wasn’t too attached to No. 17, the number he wore during last season. When the Nauset boys hockey team got new uniforms for this season, Poulin decided to make a change to No. 34, the same number his favorite player, Auston Matthews, wears for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The junior forward did his best impression of Matthews on Saturday night, as Poulin tallied three goals and two assists to help Nauset cruise past Sandwich, 7-3, at Gallo Ice Arena.
“It feels good,” said Poulin, a Truro resident. “Obviously I can’t do it with the other four guys on the ice, so all the credit goes to them. I was just in the right spot.”
Poulin said he spent time focusing on getting stronger and looking to make the right reads and passes. The University of Vermont men’s lacrosse commit showcased his vision and his strong shot throughout the game.
“He’s a heck of an athlete and we’re lucky to have him,” said Nauset coach Connor Brickley. “That kid is poised to be the league MVP right off the bat. He’s very consistent, he has a great work ethic, he’s never afraid of the big moments and he wants to be the guy in those big moments. That’s a really big asset.”
