He loved the outdoors and was a rugged enthusiast of land or sea adventures. At age 13 he was lost on a boy scout hike to Mount Monadnock in a sudden overnight blizzard. Rescued the following day by searchers, he had survived by building a lean-to from pine branches. Subsequent forays were much less dramatic.
A 1957 graduate of Swampscott High School, he received his Bachelors degree from Springfield College in 1961. He went on to pursue his studies at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota where he was awarded his Registered Physical Therapy degree. He also successfully pursued two Masters degrees in physical education from North Eastern University.
In his early yrs he was on the faculty of Williams College and the Exerter Academy. He delighted in opportunities to serve as an associate trainer for the Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox as a skilled volunteer Kevin then spent several years providing physical therapy assistance to disabled students at the Pohukaina School in Honolulu, Hawaii, before returning to establish his own independent physical therapy practice on the North Shore of Boston. A true believer in sports and exercise, he loved tennis, kayaking, biking and played ice hockey until his 80th year. He also swam daily in the Atlantic Ocean, every month of the year. He enjoyed camping on the beaches of St. John’s island, kayaking in Vinyl Haven, Maine and getting well tanned in return visits to the Hawaiian Islands. He was also quite proud of having successfully conquered the Mackenzie Glacier in New Zealand.
His greatest joy was assisting those who needed his professional service. No matter what the age group or physical challenges they faced, his gentle care provided restoration of abilities, or palliative relief. His patients loved him. His expertise was highly regarded among health care providers.
Kevin leaves his Sisters, Mary Babin and her husband David, of Lynn, Susan DePaolo of Nahant, a brother, Brian and his wife Joan, of Rock Harbor, Cape Cod, and several nieces and nephews
At his direction there will be no services. A family celebration of life will be held in the spring.
