Joanne Nickerson Sears

March 05, 2025

Joanne Nickerson Sears, 67, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, with family by her side. Joanne was born on December 8, 1957, in Waltham, to Joan (Hartford) and Elliott D. Nickerson. While in high school, she worked as a chambermaid at the Melrose Inn for many summers, spending time with her grandparents, Leslie and Annie Nickerson of Harwich Port. She graduated from Natick High School and attended Rhode Island College before returning to Natick where she worked for several years as a teller at the Natick Trust Bank. She then moved to Cape Cod, living mainly in Harwich Port.
Joanne was known for her compassionate and thoughtful nature, always looking out for those around her and making sure everyone was “all right” or “okay.” She had a warm and generous spirit, and was quick to offer a kind word or a heartfelt compliment to brighten someone’s day. She found joy in simple pleasures - savoring a good bowl of clam chowder, indulging in her love of crafting, and soaking in all the beautiful days on Cape Cod. Despite facing significant medical challenges throughout her life, Joanne never let them dull her shine. Her kindness and strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joanne is survived by two daughters and a son: Christie (Sears) Mingolla and her husband Rob and children, Alexis and Jack, of Northfield, New Hampshire; Amy (Sears) Moore, and her husband Kyle and children, Connor and Avery, of Denton, Texas; Jeremey Sears, and his wife Kate (Kumrow) and daughter, Leah, of Crystal River, Florida. She is also survived by 2 siblings who reside in Harwich Port: Bob Nickerson and his wife, Barbara (Mulligan) and Paula Nickerson Plock and her husband, Ron.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation to the Harwich Fire Department for their many years of aid, kindness, comfort, and care of Joanne.
