Postseason Roundup: Cape Tech Girls Basketball Makes History
The Cape Cod Tech girls basketball team made postseason history in the Division 5 state tournament.
The 32nd-seeded Crusaders cruised to a 64-46 victory over No. 33 Smith Academy in a preliminary-round matchup Feb. 25 in Harwich. The win marked the program’s first postseason win on its home court.
Sophomore Senny Walton continued her scoring spree with a game-high 31 points in addition to collecting 10 rebounds. Senior Maggie Brookshire (16 rebounds) dominated on the glass while anchoring the team’s defensive efforts.
Juniors Miriam Dubner, Gianna Lubash and Mia Gonsalves also performed well for the Crusaders, who finished with an 11-11 record after falling to top-seeded Hopedale, 69-38, in the Round of 32.
Nauset-Monomoy Girls Advance
Monomoy junior Gaby Bassett netted two first-period goals en route to a hat trick, but the 14th-seeded Nauset-Monomoy girls hockey team ultimately suffered a 5-3 loss to third-seeded Woburn in the second round of the Division 2 state tournament.
The Warriors (10-10-1) advanced to the second round following a 4-3 win over Norwood in the opening round.
DY/CCT/CCA Rallies In Prelims
The 31st-seeded Dennis-Yarmouth/Cape Cod Tech/Cape Cod Academy boys hockey team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to upend No. 34 Taconic, 4-3, in the preliminary round of the Division 4 state tournament.
Freshman Colin Endres tallied two goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal with 43 seconds remaining. Junior Robbie McPhee scored twice, while senior Tanner Chicoine recorded two assists and classmate Max Hulten added a helper of his own.
The Dolphins (7-16) were eliminated following an 8-0 loss to second-seeded Hanover in the Round of 32..
Tech Boys Fall
The 44th-seeded Cape Tech boys basketball team suffered a 64-60 loss to No. 21 Holbrook in a Division 5 preliminary-round matchup Feb. 25.
