Jimmy Dunn Is Here For The Laughs

A Boston comedian who doesn’t curse much? You’ll have to see it to believe it.
On March 1, Jimmy Dunn will stop by The 204 Harwich Cultural Arts Municipal Building for a night filled with laughs. Starting at 7:30 p.m., Andrew Della Volpe will warm up the crowd and Dunn will follow with about an hour of his own standup material.
“It’s a fun night of me poking fun at myself and my loved ones, which is part therapy and, fortunately for me, also my occupation,” said Dunn. “And it’ll be pretty clean comedy. I don’t swear a whole lot, I don’t like to do jokes that make people feel uncomfortable.”
Born and raised in Beverly, Dunn is a New Englander through and through. His comedy has allowed him to travel the country, appearing on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Conan O’Brian Show,” Montreal’s International Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, and Denis Leary’s Comic’s Come Home in Boston. But he’s always happy to come home.
“I’m a very New England guy,” he said. “I have very Boston roots and I’ve spent a good part of my comedy career hopping all over New England, telling jokes. That’s how I learned to do it. And then I went out in the world and did it all over the country, but I’m really my most comfortable at a gig in New England where I know I can get a cup of Dunkin’ coffee on the way down, and maybe a roast beef sandwich somewhere.”
He got his start telling jokes at a bar in Gloucester where he was paid in beer and fried clams. Now, married and a father of two, his comedy reflects his everyday life. In sharing his world, he finds many of the audience members can relate.
In 2014, Dunn landed his first major television role as Sean McCarthy in the CBS sitcom, “The McCarthys.” In 2023, Dunn was cast as Moose in the “Fraiser” sequel, which is currently being shopped around different streaming services for its third season.
Tickets are available in the upcoming events section at 204sisson.com.
“The best part of my day, every day, is that one hour on stage where it’s just me and my thoughts and my jokes and hopefully a room full of people laughing,” he said. “There’s always a moment halfway through the show where I just kind of take it in and go, ‘I can’t believe I get to do this for a living.”
