Movement Arts Fair Offers Dance Mini-Workshops

A fun and interactive event will take place at the Center for the Spiritual Journey in Chatham on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. A Movement Arts Fair will dance into town, offering opportunities to learn exciting, diverse ways of moving at the Center’s 880 Main St. location.
A team of local professionals will offer free movement mini-workshops to share a variety of unique dance and movement languages, including yoga, Capoeira, bachata, dance fitness, tap, hip hop, Greek ethnic dance and more. Whether you are a lifelong dancer or interested in learning something brand new, this free event is not to be missed.
André Lima, a practitioner of Capoeira for over 19 years and founder of Capoeira Besouro Cape Cod (CBCC), will be at the event to share the Brazilian martial art that blends elements of dance, acrobatics, music and self defense.
“Through Capoeira people come together to rise up, protect, teach, and find joy in oppression and hopes for freedom,” Lima said. “At this event, participants will have an opportunity to join a 20-minute introduction to some of our local artists and their programs. Attendants will experience multicultural and diverse movements, immersed with people of all ages, abilities, cultures, curiosities and communities here on Cape Cod. Instructors who love the movement they teach will introduce ways of moving for healthy, happy lives.”
Bonnie Fedge, the program organizer at the Center, said the Movement Fair will be an amazing opportunity to come and get a taste of many different ways here on Cape Cod to move, play and have fun in our community.
“It's a free event, bringing together practices from different parts of the world as well as types of instruments, singing, dancing, history, and experiences into one place for the variety, for the community, and to decipher how you respond and fall in love with each one,” Fedge said. “It’s an incredible way to try out lots of exercise and movement in fun ways.”
