Sayzie Miller

November 06, 2024

Sayzie Miller passed away at her home in East Harwich on October 26, 2024. Her husband Peter was by her side.
Sayzie was born in April of 1948 in New Jersey to Thomas F. Carey & Irene (Whitla) Carey. Her early years were spent in Switzerland and England before the family returned to the East coast. Sayzie’s lifelong passion for learning, writing, and the arts, took root in her education at The Institute for Living and The MacDuffie School. She nurtured these loves with an insatiable curiosity and fearlessness - from ballet lessons with Balanchine when she was young, to zoom seminars and discussions as she aged.
Sayzie made many friends throughout her life, and she nurtured those relationships with active listening and infectious joy.  Her groundedness, respectful intuition and wholesome interest she expressed to those she loved spoke for itself.  Sayzie’s heart’s desire was to spread kindness, compassion and happiness and she lived that until the end.
Sayzie was as unique and special as her name. A small, beautiful woman with a huge spirit, Sayzie brought optimism, clarity, and charm to every situation.
She held several positions in retail and advertising but was most proud of working with Peter at their company, Boston Apparel Sales. She and Peter met in 1969 in Cambridge, and they married in 1988.  They raised their son, Devin, on the Cape and watched with love as he grew to become a professional chef and later a professional iron worker in NYC. Sayzie was always so proud of her son and so interested in his life’s journey and shared with him a unique, special, and loving relationship.
Sayzie was predeceased by her beloved sister, Anne Carey Syz. In addition to Peter and Devin, Sayzie is survived by her brother Tom Carey and his wife Susan of South Yarmouth, her sister-in-law Deborah Miller of Greenwich, and her nieces and nephews in the States and England, as well as many devoted friends, especially her girlfriends from Consigning Women. Sayzie and Peter are also so very grateful for Lucy, Sayzie’s hospice nurse.
At Sayzie’s request, a party for family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choice. Her favorites included The Sampson Fund, Dana Farber Children’s Cancer Research, Wild Care and the ASPCA.
