Stephen Jeffers Burlingame

Stephen Jeffers Burlingame, 81, of North Chatham, MA, passed away unexpectedly from a long history of heart disease, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. He was a loving husband of 55 years to Suzanne (Blanchard) Burlingame. Stephen was born in New Bedford, MA on March 18, 1943, to Anna (Jennings) and Corliss Burlingame and raised on the family farm in East Killingly, CT. Besides his wife, Stephen is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth (Matthew Gunsalus) of West Hartford, CT and Amanda (Marc Grainger) of Summit, NJ. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Grace, Ella, Jack, and James.
Stephen earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Bates College and his Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut. He was a partner at the law firm, Jackson, Harris, Burlingame, and Hubert in Danielson, CT until his retirement. Stephen loved his career as an attorney, the Chatham community, friends, and above all, his family. He took great pride in the achievements of his children and grandchildren, attending many sporting events, activities, and performances.
Stephen served on the Board of Trustees and Deacons at the First Congregational Church of Chatham and kept a busy schedule with other community organizations serving as Chairman of the Historical Board of Trustees, tour guide at the Historical Society Atwood House, and volunteer at Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. He was most recently serving as Clerk of the Chatham Historical Commission.
Stephen will be remembered for his kindness, selflessness, and warm welcoming smile. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A funeral service was held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Chatham, 650 Main Street, Chatham, MA.
