NORTH EASTHAM – Through Nauset’s first eight games, Omari Perry has proven to be a talented player capable of changing the course of games at a moment’s notice.
On Monday night, Perry proved that no moment is too big.
The junior from Eastham helped Nauset erase a 1-0 deficit when he assisted on freshman Sawyer Harold’s game-tying goal before netting the game-winning goal that propelled the Warriors to a 2-1 victory over Dennis-Yarmouth.
“I wanted that bad,” Perry said. “I got a red card last week and that wasn’t good for the team, so I had to show them what it means to come back.”
Perry scored the winner with 6:16 remaining, as he wound up with a loose ball inside D-Y’s 18-yard box and was left with just enough space to send a low shot past Dolphins senior goalkeeper John Richard and into the net.
The win gives Nauset (7-0-2) sole possession of first place in the Cape and Islands League standings ahead of D-Y (6-1-3).
“It feels great because it’s the game-winner,” Perry said. “Everyone wants to score the game-winner. It’s great because it keeps us on top [of the league]. There’s a long way ahead of us, but a win is a win, and it’s good to have a win.”
