John J. Nash, Sr.
September 12, 2024
John J. Nash, Sr. aged 84, of Chatham, MA, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Born in Port Chester, New York, on July 4, 1940, along with his identical twin, Michael, to Grace Shugrue Nash and James F. Nash, Jr., John spent his formative years with Michael and elder siblings James and Barbara in Katonah, NY. After graduation from St. Mary’s High School, where he met the love of his life and future wife, Michele Reynolds (“Midge”), John attended Manhattan College in New York, NY, where he graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration. Shortly after marrying Midge and settling in White Plains, NY, John was drafted into the United States Army in 1966 and served until 1969 rising to the rank of First Lieutenant.
Following his service in the Army, John worked for many years at Chase Manhattan Bank, NY, where he ultimately served as Managing Director of Chase Manhattan Valuation Consultants, specializing in valuations of various businesses including Major League Baseball franchises: Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Baltimore Orioles. Following his banking career, John continued to work in various management positions including: Burns Industries, a 10,000-acre cattle and horse breeding ranch in Wyoming; J. Nash & Associates, a management consulting firm for numerous privately held companies; and Inspiration, an online education company in New Jersey.
Before moving to Massachusetts, John and Midge spent many happy years in Chatham, NJ where they raised six sons and met many lifelong friends with whom John and Midge shared many trips, events, and celebrations - contributing to legendary stories which continue to be told repeatedly. John kept very involved in his sons’ lives, coaching them and others in basketball and baseball for many years. John taught his sons the value of working hard through his constant penchant for always keeping a full day with large and small projects, even a few summers employing his sons as ranch hands in Wyoming. When there was downtime, John was an avid golfer and was usually the first one to tee off at dawn so he could be back at home before the family awoke.
John is survived by his wife, Midge; his sons: James, Christopher, John Jr. “Jay”, Brian, Peter, David; his daughters-in law: Diane, Evelyn, Allison, Caroline, and Molly. John was very dear to his 15 grandchildren: Jillian, Caroline, William, Colin, Avery, Paige, Chloe, Arthur, and Charlotte, as well as Leah, Kathryn, Peter Jr., Emmet, Jesse, and Caleb.
A memorial mass for John will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16, at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 85 Washington Avenue, Chatham, NJ 07928. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com
