August 29, 2024
Lynne R. Long of Ft. Myers, FL (formerly of Chatham, MA) passed away peacefully on August 12th after a graceful yet defiant battle against ALS and breast cancer.
Lynne was born in Bridgeport, CT on July 5th, 1942 to Robert and Sarah Johnson. She graduated from Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield and went on to earn a B.A. in psychology at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL where she met the one and only love of her life, A. Nelson Long, Jr. of Chatham, MA.
Lynne and Nelson married in 1962 and settled in Trumbull, CT after graduating college in 1964. They welcomed daughter Alice that year and son Robert the following year. They moved to Cape Cod shortly after and eventually settled in Nelson’s home town of Chatham where they remained until moving to Florida full time in 2021.
Lynne started working as a bookkeeper and receptionist at her father’s business, J&L Manufacturing, in 1958. She continued in similar roles at local businesses once moving to Cape Cod until starting A. Nelson Long Realty with her husband in 1972. Her passion for travel as well her business savvy eventually led her to working at and then purchasing and operating Bradshaw Travel Service in Chatham until her retirement. Lynne always believed in giving back to her community and served on various boards and committees in Chatham and was a very active congregation member and served on the Board of Trustees of Chatham’s First United Methodist Church. She cherished all of the years spent with Nelson, family and friends at their camp on Chatham’s North Beach. Later in life, she enjoyed playing Mahjong online with friends near and far and was able to continue doing so and stay connected with them until just before her passing.
Lynne is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, A. Nelson Long Jr. of Sarasota, FL, daughter Alice Malone of Sarasota, FL, son Robert Long of Dennis Port, MA and Punta Gorda FL and grandchildren Nelson, Michael, Kieran, and Aubrie.
