Howard Henry Kucks, Jr.
Howard was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 16, 1938. His maternal ancestors immigrated to Orleans, Massachusetts from England in the late 1800’s. Unfortunately, his grandfather moved off the Cape and Howard became a “washashore.” He spent summers on the Cape since childhood, and in the mid 1970’s bought a summer home in East Orleans which he enjoyed with his family for many years. Upon retirement from Bristol-Meyers Squibb, he fulfilled his dream by making Orleans his permanent residence.
Howard passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 5, 2023, at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, sister, five children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was a former USMC officer, a member of the American Legion, and a past Commodore of the Orleans Yacht Club. He also volunteered to maintain and replace the flags on veteran’s graves in the Orleans cemetery.
A small family ceremony will be held in the spring. He was loved deeply and will be truly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Orleans Yacht Club Radtke Scholarship Fund. This is a fund that provides need-based financial scholarships to the Orleans Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program. To donate, please call the office at 508-255-9091.
