CHATHAM – Preparations are underway for the town’s festive Independence Day parade, which begins at 9:30 a.m. on July 4.
This year’s parade will follow the same route as years past, beginning at the corner of Main Street and Shore Road, running through downtown to the lights at Crowell Road, and then heading down Crowell Road to Tip Cart Road.
“Chatham: A Shore Thing” is the theme of this year’s parade. World War II veteran and Chatham Band member Karl Fehrle, 103 years old, will be the parade marshal. Parade judges will be Chuck Borkoski, who suggested this year’s theme; recently retired Harbormaster Stuart Smith; and Monomoy High School valedictorian Yu Ying Zou.
At this edition’s press time, many parade details, including a list of participants, were still in the works. More information will appear in next week’s edition, which will be available beginning Tuesday on newsstands and in the mail to subscribers on Wednesday.
