CHATHAM – For the first time in Chatham Bars Inn’s 110-year history, an outside company has been brought in to manage the Shore Road resort.

Pyramid Global Hospitality, a Boston-based firm which manages high-end hotels and resorts in the U.S., Caribbean and Europe, announced Monday that CBI was among four hotels whose management it was taking over.

A press release described Pyramid as a “third-party hospitality management company” formed by the 2021 merger of three hotel and resort management companies. The company has a portfolio of more than 240 properties and has offices in Boston, Texas, Ohio and London.

Since its establishment as an upscale hunting lodge in 1914, Chatham Bars Inn has had local management. The inn was locally owned until 1986; current owner Richard Cohen of New York-based Capital Properties purchased the resort in 2006. Its various owners have employed in-house management until now.

CBI Interim manager Paul Zuest said he is working with Pyramid on the transition. He did not know when Pyramid would fully take over inn operations. “They’re getting close,” he said Monday.

Zuest retired as CBI’s general manager six years ago, but returned in April to take over day-to-day operations after the departure of previous manager Gary Thulander, who left to become area managing director of the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club in Harwich and five South Yarmouth-based Red Jacket properties.

Pyramid’s press release, issued Monday, announced the addition of four resorts: CBI, Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix; Naples Grande Beach Resort in Naples, Fla.; and Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels, Md. CEO Warren said the company is “dedicated to upholding the distinguished legacy of these properties while implementing strategies to ensure their continued success in the ever-evolving hospitality landscape.”

CBI is the town’s largest private employer. Inn properties along Shore Road, Seaview Street and Chatham Bars Avenue are valued at more than $80 million, according to assessing records.

A message left for Cohen seeking comment was not returned. Pyramid’s public relations company also failed to return messages.
