The Craig brothers can’t get enough soccer. Throughout the winter, Sawyer, 11, and his 13-year-old brother, Jackson, were among the 185 to 190 children who took part in the Harwich Police Soccer Club’s indoor futsal program at Monomoy Middle School.

Futsal maintains the basic rules of soccer, though it’s a quicker version and held on a gymnasium floor.

“I like it because it’s a lot more fast paced,” Jackson said after Saturday’s session for middle school-aged players. “And everyone knows each other.”

For Sawyer, the highlight of this winter’s futsal season — which began right after Thanksgiving — has been playing goalkeeper while still contributing at the offensive end of the field.

“I can play goalie and still attack,” he said. “I got two goals and was a couple seconds away from getting a hat trick.”

The brothers from Harwich and the rest of the club’s futsal participants will close out their season this weekend during the playoffs.
