ORLEANS — As the clock ticked down, the pressure ramped up. And Nauset junior Cam Connery delivered.
Connery, a Yarmouth resident, scored the game-tying goal that evened the score of Nauset’s Division 3 boys hockey state quarterfinal game against Watertown-Wayland at 2.
It was the second one-goal deficit the Warriors erased in the game, as sophomore Logan Poulin answered to the tie the game at 1 after the visiting Raiders opened the scoring. That tie didn’t last long, however, as Watertown-Wayland answered just 59 seconds later when James Erickson scored to make it 2-1.
Connery’s goal, which came from the slot with 2:09 remaining in the second period, was the final goal the Warriors scored before falling 3-2 after allowing a goal in the waning seconds.
Connery is expected to be one of Nauset’s leading returning forwards next winter.
