HARWICH – Ask Brent Warren what separates good players from great players and he’ll tell you that a great player’s impact extends beyond himself.

“The sign between a good player and a great player is a great player makes everyone around them play better,” Warren said. “Larry Bird made everybody around him play better.”

It’s only fitting that on a night that Warren praised the Boston Celtics’ legendary No. 33, one of his players, junior Trevor Ryone, turned in a Larry Bird-esque performance.

Ryone dropped a season-high 33 points Monday night to help Cape Tech pull away in a 70-39 rout of Falmouth Academy.

“It just feels good because last time we played these guys I didn’t do so good,” said Ryone, who scored 19 points in the first half and finished with five 3-pointers. “It feels good to have a good game against them.”

Warren said the Crusaders (12-4) go as Ryone goes, adding that the junior has played a key role in the team’s current three-game win streak.

“When he turns it on, there’s not a lot of people in this league that are going to slow him down when he gets going,” Warren said. “He’s a legitimate player and he sparks the offense. If he’s playing well, the people around him play well.”
