It's not always easy to find the resources you need on the Lower and Outer Cape. While there are plenty of agencies and organizations available to help with health, food, family support and other needs, they aren't necessarily easy to track down. What follows is a compilation of those resources, grouped into handy categories that can help locate the right help at the right time.

Health

  • The Samaritans of Cape Cod and the Islands provides support to those who are lonely, depressed, or suicidal; www.capesamaritans.org, 508-548-8900 / 800-893-9900. Crisis Text Line Text: 741741 24-hour texting service for people in crisis who need someone to talk to without calling.
  • Outer Cape Health Services, located in Harwich, Wellfleet and Provincetown, community health care for the Lower and Outer Cape. www.outercape.org.
  • Cape Cod Healthcare, operates Cape Cod and Falmouth hospitals as well as Fontaine Urgent Care Center in Harwich and Cape Cod Urgent Care in Orleans. www.capecodhealthcare.org
  • WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program for healthcare and nutrition for low-income pregnant or breastfeeding women and infants and children under the age of 5. Appointments available in Harwich, Orleans, Eastham, and Provincetown. 774-209-3212, www.outercape.org.

  • St. Christopher's Church, 625 Main St., Chatham, Tuesdays, 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays, 3 to 5 p.m., walk-in food pantry.
  • St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 310 Route 137, Harwich, walk-in food pantry Monday through Friday.
  • Orleans Methodist Church, 73 Main St. (across from the library), walk-in food pantry Tuesdays 10 a.m. to noon.

Clothing, Fuel, Childcare, Financial Help

  • South Coastal Counties Legal Service, legal assistance, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 460 West Main St. Hyannis. 508-775-7020, 1-800-742-4107, www.sccls.org.
  • Katelynn’s Closet, serving children ages 4 to 18 who are in need and live on Cape Cod and the Islands. All orders for children in need must be placed by a social service agent or school nurse.
