The Monomoy boys and girls tennis teams both advanced to the Round of 16 after earning victories in their respective Division 4 state tournaments.

The fourth-seeded girls await the winner of Archbishop Williams-Ipswich after opening the tournament with a 4-1 victory over Winthrop. They’ll be at home in the Round of 32 at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The fifth-seeded boys opened their tournament with a 4-1 win over Cape and Islands League foe Sandwich on Sunday afternoon. That victory sets up a matchup against No. 12 Rockland in the Round of 16 at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Monomoy tennis squads weren’t the only teams to experience success this week. The 31st-seeded Sharks boys lacrosse team steamrolled No. 34 Monsoon, 17-2, in its preliminary-round matchup to advance to the Division 4 Round of 32, where they’ll visit second-seeded Cohasset at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Monomoy’s 12th-seeded girls lacrosse team is set to open its postseason against No. 21 Watertown in the Division 4 Round of 32 at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

In softball, No. 20 Monomoy suffered an 18-1 loss to Blackstone-Millville in the Division 4 Round of 32. Nauset’s 34th-seeded girls tennis team also dropped a 3-2 decision to Walpole in the preliminary round of the Division 2 tournament.

Nauset’s 20th-seeded baseball team fell 5-4 at Westfield in the Division 2 Round of 32, while the Warriors’ 14th-seeded boys lacrosse team was scheduled to open its postseason against visiting Burlington in the Division 3 Round of 32 at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

A complete recap of Monomoy’s performance in the girls golf state championship, which was played after the Chronicle’s deadline, will be published in the June 16 newspaper.
