The following council on aging programs and events are scheduled in the coming weeks. Most require registration. For more information, to register for a program, to get help with Zoom or Teams or find out about transportation, contact the senior center at 508-945-5190.
On Thursday, April 14 from noon to 1 p.m. celebrate spring’s arrival with a free Hello Spring drive-through luncheon at the Stony Hill Road senior center. Pick up a prepared meal made by Chef Heather and carefully packaged to go. On the menu: spring pea soup, pasta primavera, and carrot cupcake. Reservations are required. Inform the COA of any allergies when making your reservation.
Cooking Class With Chef Heather Bailey, “Mediterranean Cooking!” Wednesday, April 20, 10:30 a.m., online via Zoom. The Chatham COA’s online cooking class, featuring chef Heather Bailey, will focus on Mediterranean cooking this month. Registration is required. Assistance with Zoom is available.
April Birthday Celebration, Thursday, April 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. For older Chatham residents born in the month of April. Reservations are required.
“The Narrow Land: Songs And Stories Of Cape Cod” with Davis Bates, Wednesday, April 27, noon to 1 p.m. Celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of Cape Cod with a lively and participatory performance by Davis Bates at the community center large meeting room. Funded in part by a grant from the Chatham Cultural Council. Advanced reservations required.
Foot Care Clinic, Wednesday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Autumn Knight is a certified foot care nurse and will be providing routine foot and nail care at the senior center. Appointments are 30 minutes for a fee of $45. Registration required.
Free Zumba Gold online exercise class, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Zumba Gold is designed for active older adults looking for a low-impact workout. Join instructor Christina Arabadzhieva online for a fit and fun way to start your day. The class is sponsored by the Friends of Chatham Council on Aging.
Harwich
Foot care clinic with Autumn Knight, April 19. Certified podiatry providers offer a general assessment of your feet and will trim, file, clean, and reduce thickening of nails, smooth corns and calluses, and massage your feet. Appointments are available 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the COA for $45. Call the COA at 508-430-7550 to schedule an appointment.
Walk and Talk Wednesdays with Susan Frasier, Wednesdays, 11 to 11:30 a.m. This program is offered in partnership with the Harwich Recreation Department. Join Susan walking in the community center gymnasium at your own pace. Free, no registration required.
Orleans
Tech Talks With Jude via Zoom. There’s never been a more important time to understand what you can do with your iPhone and iPad. “Stay Connected Using Texts, FaceTime and Emails” Thursday, April 28, 1 to 2 p.m. Participation is limited and Orleans residents have priority. Registration is required. Call the Orleans Senior Center at 508-255-6333 to register.
Knitting Group, Mondays 1 to 3 p.m., resumes April 25. Meet in the senior center sunroom. Bring all your own supplies as supplies cannot be shared, but this is an opportunity to see familiar faces while knitting for a worthy cause. Registration is required. New members always welcome!

Garden Talk: Growing For Birds And Bees, Thursday, April 21, 1 to 2 p.m. via Zoom. This program will focus on why we should care about the birds and the bees and how they share our ecosystem. Learn what threats they face, and how we can support them in our own yards and neighborhoods with beautiful plants. Fran Raleigh is a Master Gardener who has a Ph.D in plant science (ecology) from the State University of New York College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry in Syracuse. She taught for more than 30 years and retired to Cape Cod in 2018. Her primary focus in gardening is to celebrate native plants and create habitat. Women’s Radical Aging Group, Wednesday, April 27 at 9:30 a.m. via Zoom. Women’s Radical Aging Gatherings provide a confidential space to speak experiences of aging, to be heard and talk about the hard things and the daily joys. Facilitated by Mary DeRocco.
