PEABODY – In a game that didn’t have many highlights for the Nauset boys hockey team, junior forward Pete Murphy still found a way to stand out.
Although Murphy scored the only goal for 13 th -seeded Nauset during the team’s season-ending 7-1 loss to fourth-seeded Lynnfield in the second round of the Division 3 state tournament, the junior’s impressive play was hardly limited to his goal.
It seemed like every time a Lynnfield player got within a few feet of Murphy, he didn’t hesitate to play the body.
Even though the team ultimately lost, Murphy’s fearless and physical style of play set a standard the rest of the lineup can look to replicate when hockey returns next winter.
“He brings a lot of tenacity and brings a big physical game,” Nauset’s interim coach Jake Pickard said about Murphy. “He’s a great, coachable kid and he really picks up his teammates. He’s a leader by example and a leader vocally within the locker room. He’s a great attribute to our program.”
