Peter Selig

CHATHAM – Peter Selig, 84, of Chatham, died peacefully in his sleep at home on November 2, 2021. Peter was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 16, 1936, to the late Freda and Mishael Selig.
Peter attended Boston University where he met his beloved wife Miriam and earned his undergraduate degree in Statistics. He later completed his M.B.A. in Statistics and an M.A. in Quantitative Economics at Northeastern University. They raised their three children in Framingham, Massachusetts.
He began his career at Laboratory For Electronics, later working for Sylvania/GTE, and Raytheon. Peter was an Adjunct Professor at Northeastern University teaching statistics and economics courses for 38 years and he also taught at Clark University as part of their evening graduate program.
Peter had many hobbies including winter mountain climbing, hiking, kayaking, running, playing bridge, and photography. After retirement, singing became his true passion. He sang baritone in the Cape Cod Chorale, Chatham Chorale, The NoteAbles, and We Are The Men.
Peter is survived by his wife Miriam (Alexander) Selig of 62 years, his children Michele Hill (Christopher); Rachel Miller (Stephen); Michael Selig (Jennifer); and grandchildren Jennifer Hill, Alex Miller, and Michaela and Cameron Selig. He is also survived by his siblings: Deborah Bulger of Santa Cruz, Calif. (Richard Stover); Barbara Lenox of Orrs Island, Maine (Dr. Robert Lenox); his brother’s wife, Diana Selig of Smithtown, N.Y.; and their families. Peter’s brother Edward Louis Selig pre-deceased him.
A memorial service will be held at the Federated Church of Orleans, 162 Main Street, East Orleans, MA on Sunday, November 14, 2021 promptly at 1:00 pm. For online condolences, please visit
