Chatham, MA – Robert E. Cruickshank, age 85, formerly of Dover, MA, died peacefully. Born in Medford, MA, he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Boston) Cruickshank.

Mr. Cruickshank attended schools in Needham, MA, graduated from the University of ME with a B.S. degree in 1957, and completed the PMD Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Business.

He began his business career with the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, and shortly thereafter joined Worcester County National Bank as a Personnel Officer.  Later he joined Baybanks, Inc. (now Bank of America), and rose to Senior Vice President and Division Head of Human Resources.  He spent four years in the Executive Search business before joining Drake Beam Morin (DBM) and became a Senior Vice President and Managing Consultant.  Mr. Cruickshank earned many professional awards of excellence.

In 1960 Mr. Cruickshank married Sharon (Gentry) Cruickshank.  They were happily wed for 56 years.  He is survived by two sons – James E. and his wife, Karen, of Radnor, PA, and Andrew L. Cruickshank and his wife, Marilyn, of Needham, MA, plus grandchildren – Nicholas, Caroline, Sam and Jack. He is also survived by his sister Ann Ingalls of Harwich, MA and his nieces Judy Ingalls of Hingham, MA and Jan Ingalls Buchanan of Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Mr. Cruickshank was very active all his life.  He served as a Dover Town Park and Recreation commissioner, President of the Friends of the Chatham Council on Aging, Moderator of the Chatham Retired Men’s Club, docent at the Railroad Museum, a Church trustee and college class treasurer.  In addition, he had been a member of the Harvard Club of Boston and Cape Cod, New England Banking Institute, ASTD, HRD, SHRM and many other organizations.

Mr. Cruickshank was an avid tennis player, skier, gardener, and enjoyed bridge.  He was a member of the Monomoy Yacht Club and enjoyed many activities with his family.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at a later date and a private interment will be held at Highland Cemetery, Dover, MA.
