HARWICH PORT- Alan Frederick Atkinson, age 84, of Harwich Port passed away on October 18, 2021 in Hyannis. Alan was born in Providence, R.I. to the late Frederick and Melba Atkinson on August 22, 1937.
Alan served as a captain in the US Army Reserve and graduated from the University of Rhode Island, where he was a proud member of the Theta Chi Fraternity.
He began his professional career at IBM; later joined Honeywell and eventually became President and CEO of The Data Group Corporation in Lexington. Alan later finished out his career as a business consultant for numerous organizations.
Alan was married to his high school sweetheart, Nancy, and they raised their young family in White Plains, N.Y. eventually relocating to Sudbury and then retiring to Cape Cod. In his retirement, Alan was a member of the Harwich Planning Board and was instrumental in the development of the Saquatucket Harbor Waterfront. He relished being out on the water, wielding a golf club, fixing a neighbor’s dishwasher or whipping up a pot of his famous clam chowder.
Alan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Atkinson (Lauder), his daughters, Donna Beling (Steve), Lisa Grose (Dave) and Tracy Atkinson; his grandchildren, Sarah Beling (Adam), Jeffrey Beling (Ali), Hayley Cruz (Abran), and Sam Grose. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Maher, his sister-in-law, Willa Hogberg, brother-in-law, Ken Hogberg and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
