Beverly McVickar

CHATHAM – Beverly McVickar died on Thursday, September 9, 2021.  She was the devoted wife of Ron McVickar for 54 years (predeceased August, 2011).  She is survived by her sons Glenn McVickar (Rebecca) of Harwich, Mark McVickar (Chris) of Saco, Maine, grandsons Mathew McVickar (Lauren) of Portland, Oregon, Brenden McVickar (Ally) of Easton, Ben McVickar (Shea) of Portland Maine, Tim McVickar of Manchester, N.H.  She also had a great granddaughter Sophie Rebecca McVickar (Brenden / Ally).
Beverly was born and raised in Waltham by Ruth Wormwood (Cousins) and Larry Wormwood.  Her brother Donald Wormwood predeceased her in 2016.  Beverly graduated from Waltham High School and attended Lasalle University.  She came to Chatham and worked at Manson Motors and soon met her husband-to-be.  Ron worked at Larry’s PX before he and Beverly opened Ron’s Sandwich Shop on Main Street in Chatham, which they owned for 17 years.
Beverly was a gifted knitter and quilter who made sweaters for everybody she knew.  Much of her work was appreciated by people who came to The Children’s Shop, where she worked after the restaurant was sold.   She was also a lover of her dogs, of which she had many during her life.  Beverly lived for the past nine years at The Victorian of Chatham where she enjoyed many wonderful friends as well as the dedicated people who watched over her.  Her dear friend Elizabeth McCarte was a constant joy in her life, taking her shopping, inviting her to her home and always being there for her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date for friends and relatives.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Rd., East Sandwich, MA 02537. (Visiting Nurse Association/Hospice.)
