Sandy Rose Schaefer-Ung
Sandy Rose Schaefer-Ung (May 16, 1942-May 16, 2021) of Orleans passed away peacefully after a long illness. She was well cared for by the staffs of Cape Cod Hospital and Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Sandy was the daughter of George and Nina Schaefer.  Sandy’s mother was a distinguished nurse in Roslindale. Annually Sandy presented the Nina Schaefer award that was created in honor of her mother at the Roslindale Day Parade.
As a single mother, Sandy supported and cared for two children while working for the F. W. Faxon Company and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  When time permitted, Sandy supported many enlightened and progressive causes.  She protested against evictions, Trump’s policies and tried to persuade her many friends not to watch violence on television.  In addition, Sandy acquired an extensive book collection on labor studies, women’s history and gardening.
Sandy made it a point to be active in local politics.  She attended Orleans town meetings and a favorite cause was the preservation of trees along Tar Kiln Road. Sandy always wanted to beautify Orleans.
Services for Sandy Schaefer-Ung will be held at the Friends Meeting House at 58 North Main Street, South Yarmouth, MA 02664, on June 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  Contributions in honor of Sandy Schaefer-Ung may be made to any progressive cause on Cape Cod.
