Arthur F. Clough of Chatham, died from the effects of Covid 19 on 1/22/2021. He was 93 years young.
Mr. Clough was born in Jersey City, N.J., and lived in N.J. until his retirement to Chatham in 1985. He was a veteran of the US Navy during the latter stages of World War II. He graduated from Rutgers University College, New Brunswick, N.J., in 1958, and was employed by Western Electric Company and AT & T Co. for 38 years, the last 18 as a Department Head in the Engineering Division. He was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Iselin, N.J., for 22 years, and served in various offices of the First United Methodist Church of Chatham, MA, since 1985.
Arthur served on the Board of Directors of the Chatham Visiting Nurse Assoc. for six years, the last 1 ½ as its President. He was active with several square dance clubs in N.J. and on Cape Cod, was a member and Past President of the Chatham Retired Men’s Association, volunteered at the Chatham Council on Aging for many years from 1987, and was a volunteer with the Chatham Ecumenical Council for the Homeless as well, from 2001. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Chatham Over-60 Men’s League.
He was married to Nancy for nearly 54 years, until her death in 2002, and will be sadly missed by two daughters, Margaret Throne, of Monmouth Junction, N.J., and Barbara Rooberg, of Bayville, N.J., and their spouses. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and their spouses, and eleven great-grandchildren, as well as three nieces and a nephew.
Cremation will be private, and a memorial service will be planned for some time in the future, once gatherings are again allowed. Arthur requested that, rather than flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Stained Glass Window Renovation Fund or the Curb Appeal Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Chatham, MA.
