Raymond Herbert Hecht Chemical Engineer, Church Advocate Raymond Herbert Hecht, 102, of Brewster, died on January 10, 2021 at the Pleasant Bay Nursing Facility. He was born in Paterson, NJ in 1918 to Cora and Herb Hecht. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in chemical engineering and married his college sweetheart, Mary Gilmore Hart. He worked for Hercules Inc. of Wilmington, Delaware from 1941 until his retirement in 1981. Ray was a plant manager in Riverside NJ; Taunton, MA and Spartanburg, SC. Eventually, he became a member of the Board of Directors of Hercules and retired to Cape Cod. No matter where he lived, Ray and Mary maintained a home on Lake Hopatcong, NJ, where he enjoyed waterskiing and sailing from his dock. He leaves behind two children, Stephen R. Hecht of South Chatham and Savannah, GA; Judy Sulzman of West Chester, PA; four grandsons and two great-granddaughters. His last 15 years were spent in Brewster with his wonderful caregiver, Maureen Cummins. Previously, he and Mary had lived on the Eel River in South Chatham. Ray was a very active member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church of Harwich Port where he served as the Chair of Trustees.
