Peter James Luddy, Navy Veteran, Former Harwich Selectman
May 22, 1954 – October 16, 2020
Peter James Luddy, 66, passed away unexpectedly at his home October 16th. Peter spent his early years in Waterbury and Wolcott, Conn., graduated from Holy Cross High School, attended Post College and served in the Navy. He moved to Harwich in 1989, started a painting contracting business and owned Luddy’s Paint and Wallpaper Store.
Peter became active in civic groups, was elected Harwich Selectman in 1995 and served for seven years. He was rarely seen without his signature pink baseball hat and enjoyed daily morning meet and greet sessions with residents sitting in his painting contractor truck at Harwich Port post office parking lot hearing the gripes and praises and gossip of local life.
Peter had a big heart, was friendly to everyone and loved to make others laugh. He loved his family, his job, Harwich, the Cape and playing Santa Claus for many years volunteering at Harwich Library and Community Center, convalescent homes, local businesses and home parties.
Peter is predeceased by his parents James and Rosemary Luddy, Conn., and survived by his siblings Brian Luddy, Conn.; twin Michael Luddy and wife Francine, Fla.; Maureen and husband James Curtis, Conn.; his children Katrina Luddy and her mother Petra Luddy, Harwich; Justina Linder, Austria; and James Linder, MA.
Peter will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends. There will be a Beach Side Service at the end of Red River Beach, Harwich on Sunday, November 1 at 1:00 pm followed by memorial visiting hours from 2pm-5pm at the Morris O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 678 Main St. Harwich Center.
