Kenneth ‘Barry’ Barrow Wood III

Kenneth B. Wood III, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his wife and daughter on Monday, October 19, 2020 at his home in Orleans.  He fought a courageous battle with multiple system atrophy, a rare neurological disorder.
He was predeceased by his parents Anne S. and Kenneth B. Wood Jr., brother Andrew W. Wood, and sister Rebecca S. Wood.
Barry was proud to have been born in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. on April 1, 1951.  His military family lived many places, he loved to share memories of his childhood overseas, in New York and summers on Cape Cod.  Eventually his family settled on the Cape and started a family business, Kenwood Oil Company in Orleans.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan (Santos) Wood.  He is also survived by a daughter, Kirsten Deering, husband Geof, and adored grandsons Tyler and Daniel of Brewster; step-children, James Duarte of Eastham and Lauren Duarte of Eastham and sisters, Anne N. McCullough and husband Dan of Orleans, and Phoebe Doehring and husband William of Brunswick, Maine, He also leaves many extended family members and friends; he cared so greatly for them.
He was gentle, kind, patient, a wonderful listener and calming presence.  He loved music, long hikes, scenic rides, exploring new places, road trips, the ocean and sweet treats.  As much as he loved adventures, he appreciated life’s simplest gifts.  He genuinely enjoyed helping others, every person that touched his life was so special to him.
Barry spent his career in the fuel industry, for many years at the family business and eventually retiring from Snow’s Fuel in Orleans.  He was truly a company man.
A sunrise celebration of Barry’s life is planned at one of his favorite places, Nauset Beach, on  November 14th.
