CHATHAM — Four young men were apparently spared any serious injury after their boat capsized in Chatham’s North Cut Friday afternoon. At about 2:50 p.m., officials received a 911 call from one of the men, who indicated that they were in the vicinity of Outermost Harbor before the call was disconnected. Dispatchers retrieved the phone’s location and plotted it to a location several miles away near the north inlet.

The fire department, Chatham harbormaster’s office and police responded, and a rescue boat from Orleans also got underway. Rescuers took the men aboard and brought them to the fish pier, where they were evaluated by paramedics. They told officials they had been in the water for about 20 minutes.

The names of the men and the circumstances of the accident were not immediately available. There was patchy fog in the area at the time of the accident, with two-to-four-foot waves in the area of the North Cut.
