Jason C. Stone, Sr of Chatham passed away on his birthday May 30, 2020. He had been living at North Hill in Needham for several months. Hip replacement surgery proved to be a final challenge too great. Jay was born 91 years ago in Pittsburg, Pa.
Upon graduation from Penn State University, Jay married Martha almost 70 years ago. He served his country in the US Navy as an officer aboard a minesweeper during the Korean War. Martha and Jay raised their three sons in Wellesley and in 1979 added two teenage nieces and a nephew to the mix. In 1994 they made Chatham their full-time home after retirement from Northwestern Mutual Life in Boston. Jay was considered a bright star in the NML network of offices and agents. Even today he is credited with developing and guiding many great and successful careers.
Beyond his family and his life’s work, he loved to play golf, fly and work with his hands. He and Martha were members of Eastward Ho! in Chatham as well as Colleton River in South Carolina. Club tournaments were a particular passion.
Jay was a private pilot and found Angel Flight to be a rewarding way to give-back. He provided much needed air transportation to and from Boston for seriously ill people from remote areas of the north east to Boston for medical treatment at our esteemed local hospitals. Jay had both a keen desire and the skills to build, rebuild, repair and create structures of all kinds. His handiwork is still evident at their Chatham home as well as the family farm in Vermont.
In addition to wife Martha, he is survived by his sons Jason Jr., Randy and Lee, their spouses and a gaggle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren!
He generously touched countless lives and will be sorely missed.
