Elizabeth Cowles Armour

    Elizabeth ( Bessie) Armour died peacefully on February 7, 2020. She was born in Paris, France on February 10,1923 to Alice and Knight Cowles. She grew up in Chicago and Lake Forest, Ill., graduated from The Ethel Walker School and attended Sarah Lawrence College.  In 1944 she married Lester Armour Jr.  and after he served in the Air Force in WWII they moved to Arizona and had cattle ranches in Dragoon and Sonoita. They moved to Canal Point, Fla., and continued to ranch before moving to Delray Beach, Fla. Bessie was very involved in her volunteer work, tennis and her family.
    Audrey Hepburn said “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.” That summarizes her to a T.
    She summered in Chatham for many years to be near to her family. She was a member of Chatham Beach and Tennis Club where she was an avid tennis player.
She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
