Our View: 'Cape Cod Detour Land'

Opinion

(Sung to the tune of “Winter Wonderland.”)

Backup alarms ring, are you listening?
In the lane, pavement's blistering.
A frustrating sight,
We'll be late tonight,
Driving through a Cape Cod detour land.

Flagmen freeze, just like stones.
Halting traffic, on their iPhones.
They're backing up cars,
Gazing at stars,
Driving through a Cape Cod detour land.

On the detour we can see the back lanes.
And pretend that we are Cape Cod tourists.
We'll say are we there yet, We've got chest pains.
But you can't get from
Here to there at all.

On the roads, crews conspire.
To break our shocks, puncture tires.
A frustrating sight,
We'll be late tonight,
Driving through a Cape Cod detour land.

In the roadway we can see a dump truck.
Crews around it seem standing very still.
We're stuck in traffic like a sitting duck.
Looking at big holes they've yet to fill.

Memorial Day, this will all end.
Just in time, for summer to descend.
It's frustrating now,
It'll be frustrating then,
Driving through a Cape Cod detour land.

Happy holidays and safe and swift travels from everyone at The Cape Cod Chronicle!
