HARWICH – There's a saying that Saturdays are for the boys, but Oct. 5 didn't prove to be a promising Saturday for the Cape Tech football team, which fell 45-8 to South Shore Vocational.

With team numbers greatly diminished due to injuries and other issues, the Crusaders were no match for the sizable Vikings in spite of some decent passing and ground play during a decidedly chippy game.

It took Cape Tech until the final quarter to make it onto the scoreboard when quarterback Leon Lopes tapped Rob Mackiewicz, Brian Meritus, and Kyle Chase in moving the ball toward the end zone, with Lopes eventually hopping it in from two yards out before Mackiewicz snagged a nice two-point conversion pass to complete the score.

Unfortunately for the Crusaders, the damage had been more than done by then, courtesy of turnovers, quarterback sacks, and an on-field scuffle between a Cape Tech player and a South Shore opponent.

Next up for Cape Tech is a home game this Saturday (Oct. 12) against Old Colony, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. On Oct. 26 the Crusaders travel to Bourne to face Upper Cape Tech in their final game of the regular season. Cape Tech will also play UCT at home on Thanksgiving Day at 10 a.m. as part of their annual tradition.
