Phillips Farm Family Captures Top Parade Honor

By:

Grand Marshall Ivan Bassett and his wife of 71 years, Florence, enjoy the ride along the Chatham Parade route.

Phillips Farm Family's breathtaking depiction of a revolving globe supported by military men and women following a giant eagle—reminiscent of the Marine Corps Eagle, Globe, and Anchor  emblem—was named the best overall float in Chatham's Independence Day parade, the second top honor in a row for the family. The float also won for Best Patriotic Entry.

The float, and many others, reflected the parade's theme, “Chatham Honors You! Service Members Past, Present, and Future.” There were dozens of veterans marching as well as several floats honoring those currently serving.

Second place went to Pine Acres Realty/Chatham Concierge, and third place to Oyster River Boatyard. Judges awarded the Best Youth Entry to Sam and Kevin Foley; Best Small Entry, Monomoy Yacht Club; Best Large Entry, Kathleen Kelly and Jenn Gilmartin; Best Civic Entry, Sustainable Practices; Best Funny Entry, Chatham Drama Guild; and Best Family Entry, the Magner Family.

Awards will be given out at next Monday's board of selectmen's meeting.
