Christine Banks, president of the Guild of Harwich Artists, displays the incomplete Mystery Painting Puzzle.

Nearly 100 people participated in the Mystery Painting Puzzle painting party sponsored by the Guild of Harwich Artists at the cultural center on Saturday as part of ArtWeek 2019.

People were provided one of 96 small panels which contained an image for them to paint. Put together, the panels would create a Harwich image.

The four-foot by six-foot puzzle turned out to a painting of the Red River Marsh in South Harwich. The image was based on an original painting by Barbara Hageman, a Guild member and the creative force behind the Mystery Painting Puzzle, according to Michael Rudden of the Guild. The completed work will be hung in the chamber of commerce visitors center in Harwich Port during a ceremony to be announced. The painting, along with the list of painters and panel sponsors, will be on display for a year. After that, the composite painting will move to a permanent home in the Harwich Cultural Center.
