Anne Elizabeth (Crowley) Leete

HARWICH - Anne Elizabeth (Crowley) Leete, 67, of Harwich, passed peacefully after a long fight with cancer. She was a loyal and caring mother, friend, and teacher—a true force. Her sharp wit, enduring strength, and caring nature will be missed by scores of friends and family.

Anne was born in Bristol, Conn. on January 14, 1952 and attended Bristol Central High School, where she sang with The Loreleis.  She graduated from Emmanuel College in 1974. Taking a break from her early career as a teacher, Anne travelled the world. She moved to the Cape full time, having spent summers in Chatham all her life with her family. It was in Chatham where Anne met Kevin, and they married in 1981.

In Harwich, they built their family of five. She sadly lost Kevin in 1994 and returned to her teaching career in 1997, this time at Harwich High School. A force to be reckoned with in the classroom, Anne was known for dispensing lifelong wisdom, always “telling it like it is,” and never giving up on even the most difficult of students.

In the face of her disease, she applied the same doggedness and tenacity: she never, ever gave up. Right until the end, she was always surrounded by devoted friends, particularly her best friend Caren, along with many of her former colleagues and friends.

Anne’s contributions to her community and to charitable organizations were numerous and widespread. She was most recently involved in a local non-profit, the Harwich Children’s Fund. Her giving nature existed without fanfare—and she will be remembered as a fiercely devoted friend to many.

Anne leaves behind her three children, Kevin and his wife Lindsay, of Reading; Nicole (Barrell) and her husband Michael, of Duxbury; Zachary and Hayley, of Beverly, as well as three beloved grandchildren: Ryan (5), Nora (2), and Lily (4 months). She is the daughter of the late Anna and Francis Crowley of Bristol and Chatham, and sister to Mary Ellen Aldrich of Bristol and Kathy DiSabato of Hanover, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her beloved cousin and best friend, Joanne.
