Orleans Elementary School

Orleans Elementary School hosted an evening of science fun at STEM night.  Over 200 members of the school community were in attendance to participate in more than a dozen hands-on activities to help students learn about Cape Cod’s waters and how to protect and understand this resource.  This was a program of the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension in coordination with AmeriCorps Cape Cod and the Cape Cod Groundwater Guardians. 

Harwich Elementary School

Wanted: birdbaths and bird feeders for the Harwich Elementary School's National Wildlife Federation Schoolyard Habitat in the school garden. Have a birdbath in your garage, under your deck, in the corner of your shed, or some other forgotten place ? Donate it to the school garden! Four or five are needed. How about that sturdy bird feeder that you never remember to refill? Six to eight are needed. Call the school office at 508-430-7216 if you can help!

Monomoy High School

The Monomoy All Sports Booster Club will hold its third annual Mattress Fundraiser on Sunday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the high school gym.

The AP government and politics class participated in a Federal Budget Simulation at the John F. Kennedy Museum in Hyannis on Tuesday, March 19. A grant from the museum covered all the transportation costs. The class was joined by the AP Government class from Saint John Paul. JFK Museum Education Coordinator Emily Mazzetti and the museum's Executive Director John Allen were also on hand to ensure a day full of academic debate.

Seven Monomoy students are participating in “Beginnings,” a Cape-wide high school student exhibit at the Cape Cod Art Center. Maria Fidencio, Kimberly Parker, Francesca Marchesi, Laura Brown, Adam Vanderwarf, Joe DeMango, and Cailtin Daley are exhibiting work. The “Beginnings” reception was held March 22. Joseph Demango won first place for "Untitled" #45; Maria Fidencio came in second with "The Sun and Moon" #42; and Laura Brown earned an honorable mention for "Selfie" #44.

Mr. Souza and Mr. Oldach were selected to participate in the 2019 MIT Science and Engineering Program for Teachers (SEPT). SEPT is a week-long intensive program where teachers from all over the world come together to learn from MIT’s faculty about the latest advances in teaching science and engineering. Candidates for the program were selected based upon their demonstrated leadership in developing an innovative and creative learning environment. The program is being supported by a scholarship made available from the MIT Club of Cape Cod.

Jaymie Buffington, Perry Comeau, and Julie Slade served on the Youth Council on the Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board. The Youth Council is a collaboration among businesses and educational professionals, local government, community leaders and youth that aim to provide all youth with opportunities to become productive members of the community. On March 19, the students gave a presentation about the impact that Juuling and e-cigarette consumption is having on youth to a panel of community members, as well as Senator Julian Cyr.
