Jon Edward Wordell

Jon Wordell passed away at his home in South Chatham surrounded by his family after a long illness. Jon was born in Fall River in 1943. He was the son of the late Dr. Arnold and Eunisa (Greenlaw) Wordell. He graduated from Procter Academy in Andover, N.H. and Oglethorpe University in Norcross, Ga. He later taught at Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, Conn. During that time, he ran a summer school called the Chatharbor Summer Program on the family property in South Chatham. He later accepted a position in the Harwich public school system and taught science and math and ran the computer program for many years. Upon retirement, he continued to run Pine Oak Village, his family summer rental business on Cockle Cove.

            He is survived by his wife Toni (Kendrick) Wordell, his brother Nathaniel B. Wordell and sister-in-law Joy A. Wordell of South Chatham, his three daughters, Leslie Eden McGuire of Falmouth, Laurie Eunisa Wadsworth of Falls Village, Conn. and Kimberly Anne Robbins of South Chatham, and his three sons, Mark Edward Wordell of Franklin, N.C., Derek Briggs Wordell of Dixfield, Maine and his late son Jonathan Edgar Wordell.

            He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a nephew and his many close friends including Virginia Gaston of Chatham and his buddy George Metters of South Chatham. Jon enjoyed vacationing in Georgia and in Maine. He especially loved spending time with his family on the beloved boat “The Molly Brown.”

            Jon had a special love of animals and requested that donations in his name be made to MSPCA or The Animal Rescue League in Brewster or Centerville. Burial will be private. For online condolences, please visit
