Kindergarten Registration
Registration for all children eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2019 will be held at Harwich Elementary School and Chatham Elementary School on Tuesday, March 5, and Wednesday, March 6. Bring completed registration packet; visit Monomoy.edu for registration documents and requirements.
All children who reach the age of 5 before Sept. 1 are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten. On the scheduled registration day, you will need to come to the school, preferably without your child, to register. Please remember to bring completed registration packet.
The schedule for registration is as follows: Students whose last name begins with A-M, Tuesday, March 5, anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Harwich Elementary and 9 to 11 a.m. at Chatham Elementary. Students whose last name begins with N-Z: Wednesday, March 6, anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Harwich Elementary and 9 to 11 a.m. at Chatham Elementary.
Junior Prom Fashion Show
The Class of 2020 will host a junior prom fashion show Friday, Feb.8 at the Monomoy Regional Middle School auditorium. There will be a vendor fair and snacks from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by the show at 7. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students. There will also be silent auctions and a bake sale. All proceeds benefit the Monomoy Class of 2020.
Monomoy Middle School Students Participate In Second Mock Trial Case
Students in the term II Mock Trial Enrichment Seminar at Monomoy Regional Middle School had their case heard in the main session of Orleans District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The students taking the enrichment seminar, which is taught by Monomoy School Resource Officer Sgt. Bill Massey of the Chatham Police Department, each had a role in a criminal case involving a student allegedly bullying and harassing another student. One student was charged with criminal harassment and eventually brought to trial. The student attorneys prepared their case and worked together during class with the assistance of local attorney Matthew Bober. They learned a variety of legal concepts and courtroom procedures, and ultimately had a chance to have their case heard in the courtroom. Students also acted as the defendant and witnesses for both the prosecution and defense. Judge Robert Welsh shared some thoughts with the students at the courthouse in between presiding over trials, and Bober sat in as the judge for the Monomoy Mock Trial. After presenting their evidence and questioning their witnesses, the defendant was found not guilty. The judge advised the defendant that even though he had been found not guilty, it was because there was not proof beyond a reasonable doubt of his guilt, and that “not guilty” was different from “innocent.”
