John A. Wilson

            John A. Wilson, Ph.D., 82, of Dover, N.H. and North Chatham passed away on November 28, 2018 peacefully in his sleep.

 

            John was born in Winchester in December of 1935.  John was married to Christal (Gile) Wilson on May 19, 2001.

            John was a tenured professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire where he was known and recognized for his expertise, dedication, and passion for teaching. He received the Department Outstanding Teacher award continuously from 1990-1994.  He was an avid musician, sailor, painter, gardener, and enjoyed golfing. He was actively involved in the Merrimack Valley Philharmonic Orchestra, Cape Community Orchestra, The Seacoast Wind Ensemble, and Chatham Band for many years.  He actively served as the Commodore for the Chatham Yacht Club.

            John is survived by his wife Christal (Gile) Wilson; his two children, John A. Wilson, II and his wife Rhonda, Sandra E. Griffin and husband Russell; stepson Gabe Simonds and wife Marie; his sister Helen MacDonald, eight grandchildren, and many beloved friends.

            A Celebration of Life service will be held at South Church Portsmouth, 292 State St., Portsmouth, New Hampshire on January 5th, at 2pm.  In lieu of flowers please send donations to Seacoast Wind Ensemble https://www.seacoastwindensemble.org/support, or South Church for their Youth Service Group Fund.
