CHATHAM — Stuart Turner Upson, 57, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 9th, 2018. He was the son of the late Howard and Joyce Upson, both of Chatham.
Stu grew up in Wilton, Conn. and vacationed with his family every August at the end of Andrew Hardings Lane in the Rolphe family’s Driftwood cottage, which succumbed to the sea along with other homes nearby as a result of the break in Nauset Beach in the late 80’s.
Stu graduated from Boston University in 1983 with a BA in Sociology. Shortly thereafter he moved to Chatham, first as Manager of Abbott Equipment Rental, and later as a self-employed house painter and caretaker to many properties within Chatham. During that time he acquired and maintained his beloved Bristol, which became a landmark to locals and vacationers alike every summer, moored at the Mill Pond. He was a beloved friend to his Chatham family.
He is survived by his two brothers, Tom Upson, of Chatham and Matt Upson, and Brother-in-Law Allen Bunyard, both of San Francisco.
A celebration of Stu’s life will be held in Chatham in spring 2019, date TBD.
Updates can be found on his memorial website https://www.facebook.com/groups/254150958620196/. Those who wish to join this closed site may request membership from Matt or Tom, the site administrators.
Within the Facebook site is a link to a GoFundMe site created to offset expenses, with all remaining monies to be donated to a charity (again TBD) to assist those in need on Cape Cod.
