Doris Imbergamo of Chatham passed away with her sons at her side on September 8, 2018 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Doris was born on January 13, 1932 in Queens, New York to Margaret (Dockendorf) Friberg and Gustave Friberg. She worked in banking and advertising in Manhattan before meeting her husband, the late S. Charles Imbergamo. While they raised their family in Huntington, New York they loved to vacation in Chatham. Doris first visited Cape Cod in the 1950’s and she fulfilled her lifelong dream when she moved to Chatham in 1988. She worked at the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank in Harwich Port until 1999 when she retired.
Doris was a volunteer at the St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church Gift & Consignment shop in Chatham and a member of the Harwich Evening Women’s Club. She loved gardening, bird watching and spending time outdoors. In her later years Doris became an avid reader and fierce Scrabble opponent, but she most enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren. She made many friends through her time at the bank, St. Christopher’s and around town in Chatham.
Doris leaves her son Chuck Imbergamo, his wife Kathleen and grandchildren Alicia and Nathan, of Madison, Connecticut, and her son Bill Imbergamo, his wife Dena and grandchild Jennifer, of Vienna Virginia. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Testa of Red Lion, Pennsylvania. Doris was pre-deceased by her brother Malcolm in 1994 and her loving husband in 1996.
Services will be private. Donations in her memory can be made to VNA Hospice of Cape Cod or Hope Hospice.
