John Read Flood died at Pleasant Bay Nursing Home on August 31st following a short illness. He was born on October 21, 1921. He was the son of J Robley and Bessy Recid Flood in Chemung, N.Y.
Following graduating from Waverly High School, he attended Niagara College in 1943 and earned a degree in Accounting. He also served in World War II in the Army Air Force with the 4th Combat Cargo Group, in the China Burma Indian Headquarters.
He worked for Haskins & Sells in New York City and from there became an Internal Auditor for Stauffer Chemical Corp as an Internal Auditor.
John then joined the General Adjustment Bureau and he and Eileen journeyed to Chicago where they then spent 16 years before completing their dream of retiring to Cape Cod, in Harwich, where they now have been residents since January 1989. He was an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and at one time was one of their Regional Vice Presidents.
He also was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church as well a member of the Lower Cape Rose Society and a member of the China Burma India Veterans Association, and was past commander. He was also a 40 year member of Rotary, and a member of the Chatham Rotary.
He was a member, and past president of the Scarsdale Ski Club, where he became a weekend Vermont skier and also met and married Eileen Ann Barry. They also celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 27th of this year.
John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Eileen. He is predeceased by his sister Margaret Saxton. He also is survived by nieces and nephews.
