Irene Elizabeth Lund

 

            Irene Elizabeth Lund passed away peacefully at age 81 on July 13, 2018 in Houston, Texas where she had lived for 14 years.

 

            She was born October 26, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio to Andrew and Ida Johnson.

 

            Irene attended Boardman High School in Boardman, Ohio, graduating in 1954 and went on to attend nursing school at Youngstown State University.  After receiving her degree as a registered nurse, she enjoyed a successful career at St. Elizabeth Hospital.  In 1957 Irene married Jack Curtis Lund in Youngstown, where they remained until 1985 when they moved to Chatham. Upon retirement in 2004, they moved to Houston, Texas to be near family.

 

            In her lifetime, Irene was very involved in the communities where she lived. She was active in her church and schools, and also hosted a Bible study in her home for 20 years. Over the years, she developed many meaningful lifelong friendships.  She was known to care deeply for those around her and she impacted many lives because of her faith in God and love for others.  She quietly modeled how to live life and love those around her.

 

            Irene is survived by her three children, Heidi (Scott) Bowman of Glenmoore, Pa., Kristen (Larry) Mason of Akron, Ohio and Eric (Vanessa) Lund, Houston, Texas. She had 14 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

 

            She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jack Curtis Lund, parents Andrew and Ida Johnson, brothers Bill Johnson (Alice Mae), Raymond Johnson (survived by Eleanor), and sister Doris Snellgrove (Richard). 

 

Irene deeply loved her children and grandchildren.  They will all live with wonderful memories of a mom and grandmother who was very intentional in maintaining close relationships.  She was known as the family prayer warrior. Irene will dearly be missed by her family and friends.

 

A memorial service to honor her life will be held on August 18, 2018 at Sagemont Church in Houston, Texas for family and friends.
