HARWICH – With two of their top players now competing at the college level, it's been a rebuilding year for Monomoy girls tennis team, which fell to Falmouth on Monday 5-0.
In first singles action Lindsay Macdonald put up a good battle but fell 6-1, 6-1 to Julia Moskai, while in second singles Falmouth's Paige Meade defeated Ava Barbella 6-1, 6-4. In third singles Monomoy's Julia Smith put up a valiant fight against Falmouth's Julia Bridges, but couldn't overtake her opponent, falling 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
In first doubles Hannah Marty and Aliza Pillsbury put forth a good effort but couldn't get past Falmouth's Abbie Corner and Hilary Packard, who won 6-1, 6-3, while in second doubles Melanie Rosenblatt and Callie Shank defeated Kate Poskanzer and Olivia Prisco 6-2, 6-2.
While this has been a season of growth for the Monomoy team, they saw success against Dennis Yarmouth (3-2), Sturgis East (3-2), Sturgis West (4-1), and Cape Cod Academy (4-1).
Next up for the Sharks is a travel game against Sturgis East tomorrow afternoon (May 25) beginning at 4 p.m., with their two final home games set for May 29 against D-Y and May 30 against Nantucket, both with 4 p.m. starts at Brooks Park.
