Iona Loch Siegel

            East Harwich – Iona L. Siegel departed from her wonderful journey of earthly life.

            Known fondly as “Io”, she entered immortality on March 26, 2018, in her home surrounded by family. Born in Pitcairn, Pa., the third of four children to the Reverend Howard F. and Esther R. Loch, she grew up in Kittanning, Pa., with her brothers Charles (deceased), Merle, and her sister Carolyn (Allen). A graduate of Kittanning High School, she had an immense love of music and earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

            Married by her father in a joint wedding with her sister, Carolyn, her husband Richard (Dick) Siegel and she settled in New Providence, N.J., for 48 years raising four children. Not intent to sit still, she went back to the Bank Street College of Education and earned a Master of Science in Education in Early Childhood Leadership. She was the Nursery School Director of Education at Westfield Presbyterian Nursery School and Kindergarten, N.J., for 14 years before retiring to E. Harwich, MA, in 2008.

            She is survived by Richard, her loving husband and companion of 57 years of marriage, her children Brian, Holli, Trent, Leigh, two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and eight grandchildren.

            A service to celebrate Iona’s life will take place at the First Congregational Church in Harwich, MA, on April 7th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Iona’s memory can be made to the Bank Street College of Education Graduate School for Early Childhood Development, 610 West 112th Street, New York, NY 10025.
