CHATHAM – “Hooked on Chatham” will be the theme for this year's Fourth of July parade.

The theme represents the idea that people who live or visit become “hooked” on the town's many aspects other than the obvious fishing, such as the beaches, boating, shopping and history, Independence Day parade committee chairman Justin Bohannon told the selectmen Monday. It was submitted by Connecticut resident and regular Chatham visitor Suzane Schneeberger, whose theme entry added, “Let's face it, we are all hooked on Chatham!”

Participants use the theme for inspiration in designing entries for the July 4 parade, the town's most popular summer event that attracts upwards of 20,000 people.

“We announce the theme this early so prospective entrants can start designing their entries,” Bohannon said. “There are a lot of creative people in this town and it's amazing what they come up with each year.”

Parade entry forms will be available in early March; they can be downloaded from the parade webpage at chathamparade.com or the town's website, www.chatham-ma.gov. Forms will be emailed to previous entrants.

Nominations for grand marshal will be accepted in March, with a decision anticipated in June.
